TECHNOLOGY

The internet revolution brought the most transformative technological development of this millennium. Broadband has become as critical to our social and economic development as electricity was a century ago.

The digital revolution has also expanded NACEPF’s services, its reach, and — most importantly — its impact. NACEPF's subsidiary, Mobile Beacon, makes NACEPF's educational broadband service (EBS) available to educational, nonprofit, and social welfare organizations in all 50 states. Today, this has grown into the largest EBS deployment in history, improving the lives of an estimated 425,000 individuals.

Without Mobile Beacon, internet costs would run us several hundred dollars a year. We’re a small program so having that few hundred extra dollars results in us being able to feed more kids.”

Mobile Beacon’s service is extremely valuable. Our students are using it to program and learn. When I’m out in different rural districts, I count on Mobile Beacon to get my students online.”

Mobile Beacon’s hotspots are such a life changing service for many of our patrons. As we enter our third year [offering this program], we are already considering another batch to keep up with the high demand. We have not lost one hotspot yet, everyone loves it, and patrons are thrilled to get one. My only regret is how slow I was to get into this program.”

We’re a free medical clinic running on $35,000/year. If we had to pay for internet at going rates, it would be a minimum of $1,500/year or 5% of our budget. Without Mobile Beacon, we would have to cut some medical supplies to get internet.”
– Jefferson Rural Clinic, Jefferson City, TN
