HOLY FAMILY HOME FOR HOMELESS WOMEN & CHILDREN

A home with heart and soul.

Holy Family Home opened in 2015 as a safe emergency residence in a home-like setting for women and children living in crisis. NACEPF funded the renovation of a former school building in the Wanskuck section of Providence to create a residence for twelve mothers and their children. With 24-hour volunteer staff, it provides a home with a heart, and a continued vision of caring, helping and improving the lives of those in desperate need.

Unlike many shelters that provide short-term emergency housing, Holy Family Home provides additional services to address the root causes of homelessness and resulting issues. These include health checkups by physicians and pediatricians, job and skills training for any woman currently unemployed, no-cost day care and transportation for any child under the age limit for schools, and free after-school tutoring for each and every child that resides at the center. In addition, classes are offered in areas including parenting, cooking/nutrition, financial literacy, as well as educational programs for children to support their emotional and academic needs.

This residence continues to be funded entirely through private donors, and NACEPF continues to financially support the Holy Family Home through matching donations.
I lack words to describe what I feel for the Holy Family Home. The first day I got to know this place, I just opened the door, and I could breathe peace.  More than 150 days have passed, and still, every time I go to the Holy Family Home - my house - I feel the same thing.  The feeling is of tranquility, kindness, protection ."

It means EVERYTHING to me. I wouldn’t have my children, I can’t imagine being separated from my kids. I wouldn’t have anything."

I have a roof over my head and for my two kids. If I didn’t have it, I’d be in the street with them."

I'm happy here.  My kids are happy.  They look forward to coming home every day.  These are my friends.  This feels like my family. ... I love coming home every day to my friends."
